Theraplast Exercises
THERAPLAST EXERCISES
General Instructions: The exercises below should be performed _______ times a day, ______times each time on both hands. Always take each movement as far as possible. Increase number of repetitions by five daily.
1. Shape theraplast into a cone and stick base to a flat surface. Place fingers and thumb lightly over the narrow portion of the cone and draw up the cone bringing thumb and fingers together.
2. Shape theraplast to a 3" flat disc and stick on flat surface. Place hand over circle with fingers and thumb into disc and draw them together to the center of the disc.
3. Place theraplast in the palm of hand and bend fingers to make a fist. Squeeze as hard as possible.
4. Place theraplast in the palm of hand and bend ONLY fingers around theraplast. Squeeze as hard as possible.
5. Grip theraplast in hand and rotate wrist in a circular motion. First do one direction and then in the opposite direction. Press putty with as much force as possible.
6. Place oval shaped theraplast in palm of one hand. Beginning with thumb, pierce theraplast through long end and remove while bending thumb and pulling theraplast. Reshape and repeat with each finger, reshaping each time.
7. Place theraplast between thumb and index finger, squeezing through ball until fingers meet. Repeat with each finger and thumb.
8. Roll theraplast into a loop and place around four fingers. Spread fingers apart against loop.
9. Roll theraplast into a loop and place around thumb and four fingers between the knuckles and the middle joint of the fingers. Straighten the fingers outward.
10. Spread theraplast on flat surface. Keeping fingers and knuckles straight push outward spreading theraplast thinner. Be sure to be pushing outward and not downward.
11. Shape theraplast into a disc shape and mold it over tips of fingers while fingers are together. Spread out all fingers at once using as much force as possible.
12. Roll theraplast out into a roll keeping the fingers straight.
13. Place theraplast between two fingers. Bring fingers together, compressing theraplast. Repeat on each pair of fingers.
14. Shape theraplast into an oval shape. Place in hand and with thumb in base of theraplast, press thumb deeply into oval. Close hole and repeat.
15. Place forearm and elbow on table while letting the wrist relax over the edge. Grasp a piece of theraplast with one hand while the resting hand grasps the other end of the theraplast. Pull up theraplast with wrist of resting hand.
